On September 28, the Ding Summit, themed "The Future of Work in the AI Era," was held in Haining, Zhejiang. Hosted by DingTalk, Alibaba's AI-powered office platform, the summit attracted representatives from hundreds of leading trade and manufacturing companies in the Haining region, who gathered to explore practical pathways for AI technology in enterprises' digital and intelligent transformation.

Sharing Local Enterprises' Digital and Intelligent Practices

As outstanding representatives of local digital and intelligent transformation, the leaders in charge of digitalization from Haining Leather City, a "national brand," and Zhejiang Xinhui New Materials Co., Ltd., a "specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative" company, shared their experiences.

As an important manufacturing and foreign trade hub in the Yangtze River Delta region, Haining boasts deep digital roots. According to DingTalk, nearly 35,000 enterprises in Haining are currently using DingTalk for daily operations and management, covering more than one-third of all registered businesses in the area. Among large-scale enterprises in Haining, nearly 60% are using DingTalk. Manufacturing enterprises account for the largest share, while schools, the internet industry, and trade sectors have also widely adopted the platform. Local well-known enterprises such as Haining Leather City, Mars Kitchen Appliances, Wankai New Materials, and Xinhui New Materials have all chosen DingTalk as the cornerstone of their digital transformation.

As a smart collaboration platform with 700 million users, DingTalk has long been committed to supporting Chinese enterprises in their digital and intelligent transformation. It now serves more than 20 sectors of the national economy, with over 26 million enterprise customers and more than 1.41 million AI applications.

DingTalk Helps Enterprises Boost Efficiency

In her speech, Lu Xiaoman, General Manager of the DingTalk Service Center, emphasized: "AI represents a technological opportunity for all industries, including Chinese manufacturing. As China's largest AI productivity platform, DingTalk is dedicated to providing high-quality products and inclusive AI services across all sectors. We will continue to serve Haining enterprises with the same commitment."

Zhejiang Xinhui New Materials Co., Ltd. is a leading enterprise in China's butyl rubber industry. The company began using DingTalk in 2017 and, in 2024, built the Xinhui Process Assistant based on DingTalk's AI assistant to help employees answer questions related to company processes, significantly improving employee satisfaction. 'DingTalk is comfortable for employees to use, easy for IT staff to manage, and highly cost-effective,' said Yang Jiajun, the company's digitalization leader.

The Digital Transformation Journey of Haining Leather City

As a representative "national brand" from Haining, Haining Leather City officially embarked on its digital transformation in 2018, using DingTalk as a unified office foundation and entry point to efficiently serve more than 6,000 merchants and tens of thousands of stalls at the Leather City headquarters.

Yao Zhengyu, General Manager of Haining Leather City Network Technology Co., Ltd., systematically explained how this long-established commercial complex, with a history of more than three decades, leveraged DingTalk to achieve deep integration of business flows, approval flows, and data flows.

Yao Zhengyu pointed out that traditional enterprises often face the "system silos" problem during digitalization: "Businesses run on System A, approvals on System B, and data on System C. Employees have to switch between multiple platforms every day, which leads to low efficiency and a higher risk of errors." By deploying a DingTalk-specific version, Leather City seamlessly integrated its internal approval processes with its self-built big data platform, enabling an integrated operation where "approvals automatically generate contracts, and data is returned in real time."

He used the "electronic contract" scenario as an example: "In the past, approvals were handled online, but contracts were managed offline. During the approval process, employees had to manually download, print, review, modify, and sign contracts, leading to chaotic version control. Now, with DingTalk, contract templates are generated automatically, variables are filled in automatically, and any modifications made by the person in charge are traceable, eliminating version confusion and operational risks from the source." Previously, it took anywhere from three days to a week to complete a contract from initiation to final approval and archiving; now, the process can be completed in as little as two hours. Haining Leather City handles more than 20,000 contracts annually, saving over 100,000 yuan in paper and printing costs alone.

In addition to process optimization, Yao Zhengyu particularly emphasized DingTalk's value in permission control and system integration. By using DingTalk as a unified identity source, Leather City achieved real-time synchronization of organizational structure and permissions across business systems. "Once an employee's position changes, their permissions in all business systems are automatically adjusted, and sensitive data is immediately isolated, preventing internal data leaks."

At the same time, DingTalk acts as a "connector," fully integrating data from multiple modules within Leather City, including the merchant service platform, logistics system, financial system, and parking system. Yao Zhengyu gave an example: "After the parking system data is integrated, we can accurately identify the source of visitors, their length of stay, and even determine their willingness to consume by combining the data with the membership system, providing a basis for precision marketing." This data linkage capability not only improves operational efficiency but also provides real-time, multi-dimensional data support for business decision-making.

A New Chapter in the Transition to the AI Era

From optimizing contract processes and controlling permission-related risks to managing data assets and exploring AI-driven scenarios, every step of Leather City's transformation is closely aligned with business pain points and focuses on practical results rather than abstract concepts.

As DingTalk advocates the concept of "inclusive technology," the value of AI and digital tools lies not in how advanced the technology is itself, but in whether it can truly help enterprises improve efficiency, reduce costs, and control risks. In Haining, a hotbed of manufacturing and trade, the partnership between DingTalk and Leather City is becoming a "best-practice model" for regional enterprises' digital transformation, offering a replicable roadmap for more traditional companies to embrace AI and achieve intelligent upgrades.

"Next, in addition to serving Leather City's merchants, we are also considering extending Leather City's decade-long digital transformation experience to more enterprises in Haining to empower local businesses. At the same time, we will work with DingTalk to explore more AI application scenarios, ushering in a new chapter in the transition to the AI era," Yao Zhengyu said.
