On August 25, DingTalk held a launch event and officially unveiled version 8.0, marking the full transition of this largest collaboration app in the mobile internet era into the AI-native age. DingTalk CEO Wuzhao stated: "DingTalk 8.0 is also AI DingTalk's 1.0. We are determined to wipe the slate clean and, with a zero-based mindset, build a brand-new DingTalk for the AI era."
Since launching version 1.0 in 2015, DingTalk has redefined the way work is done in the cloud and mobile internet era over the past decade. The newly released DingTalk 8.0 is named "Fern," symbolizing the true formation of a living system—rooting itself deeply in industries, reconstructing its internal framework, and flourishing outward through a thriving ecosystem.
The new DingTalk completely reimagines the traditional office product form, redefining how work interactions, information processing, knowledge search, and application creation are conducted in the AI era. It simultaneously introduces more than a dozen AI products, including DingTalk One, the enterprise AI search engine "AI Souwen," AI Tables, AI Minutes, and the smart hardware DingTalk A1. Starting today, users can download the update via the DingTalk official website or major app stores to immediately experience the new features.
DingTalk One: An AI-driven Work Information Stream
DingTalk One is the world's first agent-driven work information stream built for the AI era, delivering a new AI-powered experience for information acquisition and collaboration, making work processing as smooth as scrolling through short videos.
In traditional work modes, vast amounts of information are scattered across group chats, to-dos, meetings, documents, and other scenarios, requiring users to actively search for what they need—a process that is inefficient and distracts from focus. DingTalk One uses AI to organize all work-related information and tasks by priority, presenting them clearly in the form of information-stream cards, shifting the paradigm from "people looking for work" to "work finding people."
DingTalk One also serves as a unified entry point for natural-language conversations between humans and AI. By long-pressing the One button, users can issue voice commands to direct various agents to perform tasks such as initiating meetings, creating to-dos, searching for information, summarizing projects, and generating data statistics, significantly boosting work efficiency.
At the same time, DingTalk One builds an internal learning space for enterprises, replacing the previous reliance on group chats for information sharing. Enterprises can use AI to automatically collect, translate, and distribute new products, technologies, trends, and insights from within the industry to employees, much like a video feed or TikTok, fostering organizational learning and knowledge sharing.
AI Souwen: An Enterprise-Level AI Search Engine
While large-model-based AI search is becoming mainstream, general-purpose models struggle to meet the complex needs of enterprises. Data such as chat logs, documents, meeting minutes, emails, and approval workflows are scattered across different systems, making it difficult to find specific information.
DingTalk has launched the enterprise AI search engine "AI Souwen" (AI Seek), which combines AI search and knowledge-answering capabilities to provide employees with a precise way to access knowledge. Whether users are searching for people, tasks, knowledge, or project progress, AI Souwen delivers accurate answers based on the user's permission scope. For example, if a sales employee searches for "Q3 2023 sales in East China," the system will automatically integrate chat progress, accessible table documents, weekly reports, and CRM data to generate a structured chart.
AI Souwen supports flexible integration with multiple large models and introduces the innovative model engine AI Fusion, which brings together more than 50 mainstream large models worldwide. Enterprises can compare the answering performance of different models in AI Fusion and choose the best option. For companies expanding overseas, the platform offers access to international models that comply with local regulations; for state-owned enterprises, financial institutions, and tech companies that prioritize data security, the platform supports integration with local, private, or industry-specific models, balancing security with practicality.
AI Tables: An Application Creation Platform for the AI Era
More than 300,000 enterprises have already created business applications using DingTalk AI Tables. This upgrade positions AI Tables as an "AI-era application creation platform" (AI Infrastructure of Application), featuring a new visual design, enhanced interaction experience, and the launch of several AI capabilities, including the AI Tables Assistant and field Agents.
With the AI Tables Assistant, users can simply describe their needs through conversation, and the system will automatically generate AI tables, automated workflows, and dashboards. Users can also perform data queries, formula-based calculations, and formatting adjustments, significantly lowering the barrier to entry.
DingTalk AI Tables has launched more than 100 field Agents, equivalent to hundreds of AI assistants working collaboratively within tables. These agents cover multi-modal capabilities such as text, image, audio, and video generation, information extraction, image recognition, and speech-to-text transcription, as well as scenario-specific functions like instantly trying on clothing in images, virtually trying on products, and replacing backgrounds.
In a safety-inspection scenario at Shandong Weiqiao Pioneering Group, after workers upload photos, field Agents automatically identify potential hazards. AI then completes the entire analysis—from problem description to remediation recommendations—and uses automated workflows to push notifications to the relevant responsible parties, effectively reducing the incidence of accidents.
In addition, DingTalk AI Tables has partnered with Alibaba Cloud's database team to launch a new storage-compute integrated architecture called O-Table. Leveraging Alibaba Cloud's data storage and computing technologies, this architecture enables large-scale storage, AI-driven storage-compute integration, and high-performance parallel computing in complex scenarios involving massive data volumes, frequent updates, cross-table relationships, and real-time calculations—while maintaining both cost-effectiveness and practical usability.
AI Minutes and Smart Hardware DingTalk A1
DingTalk 8.0 officially launches the next-generation voice intelligence tool "AI Minutes" (AI Minutes) and unveils its first smart hardware device, DingTalk A1.
AI Minutes is a large-model-based voice recording tool that supports real-time transcription, semantic understanding, and intelligent summarization. Users can quickly activate it via video conferences, the search box, or in combination with DingTalk A1 to automatically generate meeting minutes. It comes with 36 built-in scene templates covering team meetings, classroom notes, interviews, psychological counseling, legal consultations, and other use cases, and supports custom templates for enterprises.
DingTalk A1 is DingTalk's first AI hardware device. It measures just 3.8 mm thick—about the thickness of a few stacked credit cards—and can be magnetically attached to the back of a phone. The device features a 6-microphone array and bone-conduction technology, supporting high-definition audio pickup from up to 8 meters away. It offers 45 hours of battery life and comes with 1,000 minutes of free transcription time and 10 GB of cloud storage.
DingTalk A1 is deeply integrated with the AI Minutes capability at the software level and seamlessly connects with DingTalk's To-Do and Calendar apps. The device can also summon more than 10 AI assistants with different roles and supports user-defined configurations, enhancing the personalized collaboration experience.
"DingTalk will return to its entrepreneurial roots, embrace innovation, and put users first as it builds a collaboration office product worthy of the AI era," Wuzhao concluded.
