On December 8, Alipay and Ant Group celebrated their 20th anniversary.
To mark this milestone, Ant Group organized a large-scale celebration—an internal event that was the most extensive and largest in scale for the company. The event combined online and offline formats, featuring a birthday carnival, a time relay run, and public service volunteer activities. These diverse activities connected Ant employees across the globe and different time zones, allowing them to reflect on their original aspirations and honor their shared ideals.
Behind the stable, high-concurrency livestream that lasted 11 hours and engaged tens of thousands of employees was the support of tools like DingTalk Live.
In the past, organizers often faced the following challenges when hosting large-scale livestream events:
Most livestream platforms failed to effectively showcase a company's brand elements or convey its unique culture, resulting in a lack of ceremonial atmosphere.
Live interaction was limited to a single format, lacking fun and failing to engage employees, which significantly diminished the overall experience.
The stability of ultra-long livestreams also posed a major challenge—delays, freezes, or even complete disconnections were all potential technical issues that caused concern.
The organizers of Ant's anniversary event used DingTalk Live to easily overcome these challenges. Let’s take a look at how they did it!
✦ Diverse interactive features
Maximized corporate cultural atmosphere
How can you create an immersive atmosphere and a sense of presence in the digital world?
The Ant OC team focused on comment, like, and special-effects interactions. The previous monochrome comments have been replaced with colorful comments such as "Happy Birthday" and "I'm here." During the livestream, Ant employees could simply tap the bottom-right corner of the screen to unlock 20th-anniversary-specific like logos and vibrant "like flares," allowing them to remotely "cheer wildly" for colleagues performing on stage.
In addition, the burst-screen special effects were truly stunning. Fireworks and birthday cake effects that filled half the screen, paired with the "ANT 20" anniversary message and trendy, colorful hues, made the interactions more playful and engaging. If users didn't want the burst effects to interfere with their viewing experience, they could switch back to the live stream page with a single tap, offering flexible control.
In this way, the event livestream was no longer a one-way "watch" but rather a "play" and "engage" experience. Tens of thousands of Ant employees found a sense of presence and belonging in the digital world, while Ant Group successfully delivered a unique corporate culture message through the event.
✦ Dozens of prize-drawing interactions
Doubled event ceremony
Prize draws during livestreams tend to be repetitive. What new approaches can be used for important company milestones?
The key lies in creating a rich sense of ceremony. Leveraging DingTalk Live's lucky bag, recommendation card, and multi-group broadcast features, the Ant OC team conducted 28 rounds of prize-drawing interactions, continuously drawing employees into the livestream room.
Some lucky participants won travel and hospitality packages by opening a lucky bag link, while others in the comment section won mechanical keyboards through random draws. Still others grabbed monthly membership passes via recommendation cards. The variety of prizes and the frequency of giveaways rivaled those of offline events.
The multi-group broadcast feature also allowed the livestream to be synchronized in real time to various group chats, ensuring efficient reach. A large number of employees flocked into the anniversary livestream, greatly boosting their sense of participation and engagement.

✦ Bilingual subtitle translation
Global employees share the moment
Ant Group employees are spread across Hangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Singapore, Japan, the UK, Italy, the US, Australia, and other locations, making it a truly global organization. How can language barriers be overcome to meet the viewing needs of employees in multiple regions around the world?
DingTalk Live solved this challenge through its multilingual subtitle/translation feature. After enabling this feature, Ant employees could see real-time bilingual subtitles (supporting Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean). Whether employees were based in Hangzhou or located on the other side of the globe, they could effortlessly understand the live content and enjoy a low-latency, high-concurrency viewing experience.
Notably, the Ant OC team also pre-configured a hot-word library in DingTalk Live, including internal proper nouns and names, further ensuring the accuracy and real-time nature of the subtitles.

✦ Advanced livestream moderation
11-hour safety escort
How can you ensure smooth and safe operation during an 11-hour livestream—a true "marathon"?
The Ant OC team leveraged DingTalk Live's assistant-host feature to make long-duration livestream moderation much easier. Throughout the livestream, three dedicated assistant hosts each took on specific roles, monitoring real-time data on the console and pinning standout comments to keep audience interactions healthy and orderly.
At the same time, DingTalk Live's screen watermark feature makes information traceable. Each viewer's livestream screen displays a unique identifier, effectively preventing content leaks and unauthorized sharing, thus ensuring the security of internal information.
As a mature livestream platform, DingTalk Live not only supports a wide range of interactive tools and powerful moderation capabilities but also boasts an experienced technical support team that can provide additional solutions and customized services.
"For high-concurrency, high-demand, and complex livestreams like Ant's, multiple teams often need to work together, conducting tests and rehearsals of the livestream plan in advance. For example, three days before the official event, we ran multiple rounds of testing, assessed risks associated with potential livestream failures, and designed several redundant solutions to ensure a stable livestream connection and experience," said a member of the DingTalk Live team.
Through DingTalk Live, Ant Group brought together tens of thousands of employees worldwide, creating a unique anniversary celebration. The livestream not only remained stable, safe, and orderly but also delivered a strong sense of ceremony and engagement.
