On November 10, Alibaba Group and Marriott International announced a strategic AI partnership. The two companies will collaborate deeply in the Chinese market in areas such as cloud infrastructure and AI application innovation to create personalized, high-quality travel experiences for users.
Deepening Collaboration to Build a Tech Foundation for the AI Era
This collaboration represents an upgrade from the companies' existing strong partnership, aimed at accelerating the deep integration of AI technology innovation with application scenarios in the AI era. Marriott International will leverage Alibaba Cloud's leading cloud infrastructure and data products to build a robust tech foundation for the AI era, supporting business growth and improving operational efficiency. In the initial phase, the collaboration will focus on the Chinese market, serving as a foundation for exploring broader areas of cooperation.
Promoting Intelligent Applications to Enhance Guest Experience
At the application level, Marriott will integrate the Tongyi series of large models to support intelligent upgrades in customer service and marketing. The two companies will also establish an innovation mechanism to drive AI applications in hotel settings and optimize user experience. They plan to pilot AI agent applications in the Fliggy Marriott flagship store in 2026. This feature will provide personalized itinerary recommendations, improve guest booking efficiency and digital experience, and enable a shift from "passive response" to "proactive anticipation" in service delivery.
Strengthening Channel Collaboration to Expand Growth Opportunities
Marriott will further strengthen supply chain collaboration with Alibaba, reinforcing the service advantages of its official channels to ensure consistency and competitiveness in pricing, benefits, and membership services across platforms such as the Fliggy Marriott flagship store and the Marriott Bonvoy app. The two companies will also rely on their joint venture to advance intelligent marketing, continuously explore new channels, and unlock additional growth opportunities. Since the two sides formed a strategic partnership and established a joint venture in 2017, they have created a completely new travel experience for consumers.
Exploring New Paths to Boost Employee Efficiency
In the future, Marriott will also work closely with DingTalk to explore how AI technology can enhance the efficiency of hotel staff, thereby providing guests with higher-quality service.
"Marriott has always put guest needs at the center and is committed to excellence at every touchpoint along the journey," said Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International. "Our deepened collaboration with Alibaba combines Alibaba's strengths in digitalization and artificial intelligence with Marriott's deep accumulation in the membership ecosystem, enabling every trip to better understand guests—from intelligent recommendations to customized planning—creating a personalized 'tailored' experience that makes travel more human and meaningful."
Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu said, "We aim to leverage Alibaba's full-stack AI technology advantages to partner with Marriott International in driving the deep application of AI in the hospitality industry, jointly innovating and enhancing consumer experiences in the AI era."
